Summary and Essential Duties / Responsibilities

The cost accountant position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, controls, BOM management, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities.  The Cost Accountant will be the backup for Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Cash Management and have the opportunity to grow in all areas of Accounting.

Duties include, but not limited to the following.  Other duties may be assigned:
  • Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts
  • Update standard costs in the bill of materials
  • Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
  • Validate the cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close
  • Establish and maintain cost accounting policies and procedures
  • Review routers and compare to BOM’s for discrepancies
  • Perform analysis for materials costing, pricing and margin with the objective of guiding to operations mangers, an understanding of their cost.
  • Support external audits in all areas of Accounting
  • Perform in depth analysis of direct manufacturing and overhead cost with the objective of guiding to operations mangers, an understanding of their cost.
  • Review and approve inventory purchases and process related inventory payables
  • Complete implementation of current PCMRP system to achieve full system utilization including identification and documentation of related process.
  • Participate in month end close process creating journal and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Cross train with other team members on payable, receivables and payroll to ensure all positions have a trained backup.
  • Monthly Financial statement creation
  • Participate in the budgeting process for sales and related cost management

Requirements:
  • 3+ years of accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing environment. Also, a BA/BS degree, CPA preferred as well as excellent analysis skills, and the ability to collaborate with a multi-department team. 
  • MRP and manufacturing experience is required
  • Intermediate to advance excel experience required
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude
